100 Arhats

Takashi Murakami Exhibition Interpretive Gallery

For the exhibition Takashi Murakami: The Octopus Eats its Own Leg, the artist’s process is explored in a room dedicated to the massive painting 100 Arhats. Sketches and fabrication studies are displayed in bespoke cases, while a full scale, ghost-like reproduction of the object wraps across two walls. Within this faded image, specific figures are emphasized, relating to the content in the cases. This project was a collaboration of the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and Vinci | Hamp Architects, where Field Guide provided design leadership and project management.
